At the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) 2030 INSIGHT LIVE in Mexico (held 25 – 27 June 2024), Orthoptist Rosamund Gilden was awarded the prestigious Young Systems Leader Award alongside eight other recipients.
The award recognises emerging leaders and professionals driving progress and change in eye health.
Rosamund was recognised for her impactful work as the DR-NET South Pacific Regional Coordinator—a collaboration between RANZCO and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Prior to the award ceremony, Rosamund participated in the 2030 INSIGHT LIVE Diabetic Retinopathy Work Group Session, hosted at APEC Hospital de la Ceguera.
In the session, Rosamund made the case for rebranding the term ‘diabetic retinopathy’ as ‘diabetic eye disease’. An audience poll made during this debate favoured this position.
We look forward to the work her and the fellow award recipients will do!
